Never before has a T-Shirt caused so much controversy in football. 

QPR manager Mark Hughes has said that he won’t punish his six players for not wearing the Kick it Out shirt which backs an anti-racism campaign. Manchester United chief Sir Alex Ferguson however has indicated that Rio Ferdinand “will be dealt with” for the same ‘crime’.

Anton Ferdinand was among the QPR who neglected the shirt, and Mark Hughes said that each player had a right to make the decision. 

“A lot of people have made stands,” he said. “Possibly some of our guys felt that they needed to stand shoulder to shoulder which I think you have to accept.”

David Moyes meanwhile has slammed the decision to send off Steven Pienaar in Everton’s 1-1 stalemate with QPR as ‘ludicrous’.

The South African international was booked twice – the second of which appeared to be an accidental coming together of legs with the Hoops’ Jose Bosingwa. 

The Toffees were left to play out the remaining half hour with ten men, and Moyes was livid. He told BBC Sport: "To send a player off under those circumstances is a ludicrous decision.

"We had the same referee [Jon Moss) against West Brom. He didn't perform well on that day, he didn't perform well today.”

Alan Pardew has stated that Fabricio Coloccini played like Bobby Moore in the frantic Tyne & Wear derby yesterday.

The Newcastle United boss said: "He was absolutely phenomenal. 

"If you want a defensive example of how to head it, kick it, cover people and have the calmness to play, then this was it. That was like watching Bobby Moore. It was that good." 

The Argentine helped to batten down the hatches for his side, after they were reduced to ten men just 25 minutes into the game following Cheick Tiote’s sending off.

The game finished 1-1 after Yohann Cabaye’s early strike was cancelled out by a late Demba Ba own goal.

Two moments of controversy this weekend has prompted two managers to call on the FA to act swiftly and decisively.

Alan Pardew believes that Robin Van Persie should be punished for seemingly elbowing Yohan Cabaye during his side’s 3-0 defeat to the Red Devils. The incident was missed by referee Howard Webb.

He said: "He [Van Persie] has looked at Yohan and he has elbowed him. I think that perhaps needs to be looked at, if I am honest.”

Meanwhile, Tony Pulis wants the FA to have a look at Luis Suarez’s ‘light footed’ performance against his team yesterday.

The Stoke boss believes the Uruguayan went to ground far too easily in the goalless draw at Anfield.

"I've been on about and banging the drum about people who fall over," Pulis remarked. "It's an embarrassment. The FA should be looking at this."

The FA is set to take action against Ashley Cole however, following the Chelsea man’s vitriolic tweet from Friday.

The England left back called the Association “a bunch of t****” in the wake of the full report of the John Terry race trial, in which the validity of Cole’s evidence is questioned.

The 31-year-old is still set to link up with the England squad for training later today.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both scored twice as the spoils were shared in the first ‘El Clasico’ of the campaign.

A typically frenetic game ended 2-2, with Ronaldo’s brace finishing off a remarkable week during which he has found the net eight times in just three games.

Chelsea captain John Terry has been fined £220,000 and suspended for four matches after being found guilty of racially abusing QPR man Anton Ferdinand. 

The FA reached their verdict following a four day hearing. Terry was said to be "disappointed" with the verdict, with many observers questioning why the FA’s decision was different to that of the criminal proceedings back in July.

The former England man will wait for the written judgment before deciding whether to lodge an appeal.

In his own imitable style, Joey Barton hit out at the FA’s level of punishment.

“Twelve games!!! By the FA's perverse reckoning, I'd of got less of a ban for racially abusing the Man City players, than tickling them as I did,” the Marseille man wrote on Twitter.

Match of the Day’s Gary Lineker was also incredulous. “The FA find John Terry guilty and give him a 4 match ban and 220K fine. Just one game more than a regular red card?” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Alan Pardew has signed an incredible EIGHT YEAR contract extension.

The Newcastle boss will now be at the club until 2020, and has been joined by his coaching staff John Carver, Steve Stone and Andy Woodman in signing the longer term deals.

Chief Scout Graham Carr – famed for unearthing the talents of Yohann Cabaye, Cheick Tiote and for being comedian Alan Carr’s father - has also penned a deal that will keep him in the North East until he is 75 (he’s 68 now by the way).

Jermaine Jenas will be looking to resurrect his career at his hometown club, after joining Nottingham Forest on a one month loan deal.

The Spurs midfielder’s career has been plagued by injury, and he has only made a handful of appearances in the last few seasons. 

Tipped as an England regular when he first broke onto the scene, Jenas will be hoping for more first-team football at the Championship club.

A debut double from Oscar was not enough for his new Chelsea team-mates, as they were held to a 2-2 draw with Juventus.

It was defensive lapses from Mikel and John Terry that allowed the Italian club to pinch a point in this Champions League Group E curtain raiser, after the £25 million Brazilian had given his side a two goal cushion.

A rare Michael Carrick strike was enough for Manchester United to claim a narrow 1-0 win against Galatasaray in Group H.

Despite the result it was a night to forget for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men, for whom Nani missed a penalty, and the Turkish side will be disappointed not to have taken at least a point home with them.

They were denied a spot kick of their own when Nemanja Vidic bundled Umut Bulup to the ground, and went on to hit the woodwork three times. A close shave for United then, who will have been buoyed by the first appearance for eleven months of Darren Fletcher.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has confirmed that his top goalscorer Demba Ba could leave the club in January.

The Senegalese marksman has a £7m buy-out clause in his contract, and talks over a new deal have yet to surface. Vultures from across Europe will be getting ready to swoop.

"There is that clause in his contract and it makes us vulnerable," Pardew said. "It's still open in the next window."

In the Championship, Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday played out a rip-roaring Yorkshire derby, with the Terriers taking the plaudits 3-1.

Both sides were reduced to ten men in this feisty encounter, with the result seeing Simon Grayson’s men leap into sixth place.

Elsewhere, Leicester City beat Burnley 2-1 and Wolves took the spoils following a 2-0 win at Ipswich.

England women’s team qualified for the 2013 European Championships following their 3-0 victory over Croatia.

Hope Powell’s ladies secured automatic qualification with goals from their captain Casey Stoner, Eni Aluko and Jill Scott. They finished top of Group Six, following an exceptional campaign in which they remained unbeaten.
